Soyung LEE is interested in reflecting the aspects on how the culture and lifestyle of a region is related in an individual’s history, conflict, and sensibilities.
She graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, US, with a BFA and from Korea National University of Arts with an MFA. Over the years, she participated in artist residencies as Sumu Arte (Finland, 2008), Yaddo (US, 2008), MacDowell Colony Fellowship (US, 2009), The National Art Studio Changdong (Korea, 2010), New Zero Art Space (Myanmar, 2014), Videotage Fuse Artist Residency (Hong Kong, 2015) and has had the following solo exhibitions, multiple personality disorder (Gallery JungMiSo, Seoul, 2004), Being Deprived/Chasing the Morning (Sumu Studio, Titanik Gallery, Turku, 2008), Cloud-Cuckoo-Land (Gallery Curiosity, Seoul, 2009), Doubtful Nest (Boan Art Space, Seoul, 2015).
Recent exhibitions she participated in include Let Them Be Frail (Gallery Jungdabang Project, Seoul, 2012), A Cabinet in the Washing Machine(Seodaemun-gu Recycling Center, Seoul, 2012), THE FUTURE IS COMING FROM ALL DIRECTIONS (Gallery 175, Seoul, 2013), Our Hesitant Dialogues (Art Sonje Center, Seoul, 2013), Unfinished Narratives (Korean Cultural Centre India, New Delhi, 2014), Adventurer, Tourist, The Resistance (Space O’NewWall, Seoul, 2014).
