Words from the Curator
Day 2 (Tue 17/05/2016)
Louise Shannon deliverer her talk today. A freelance curator now, she used to be working for Victoria and Albert Museum in London as Curator of Digital and before which, various collections in the Museum including Furniture, Textiles and Fashion and the Word and Image Department. So in the presentation, she focused on Decode, the first exhibition devoted to digital art and design at the V&A that she co-curated and other acquisitions she oversaw at V&A.
We grabbed a quick lunch at the cafe in Innovative Tower then met up with Dr. Harald Kraemer, Associate Professor at School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong, at the entrance. He is the curator of ISEA2016 juried exhibition. While he’s still busy setting up the exhibition for the last moment before it officially opens the next day, he kindly led a tour for us to introduce the curatorial concept behind and all the effort he made to make sure the artworks presented their best.
After that we headed back to School of Creative Media for a rehearsal by artist and researcher Ellen Pearlman who proposed a fascinating brain opera in the 360 exhibition space in CMC. It was really impressive.
Yung Ma, Associate Curator at M+, then came over to SCM as arranged, to talk about his experience working at M+.
The long day was concluded by heading back to Hong Kong Maritime Museum for the Opening of Open Sky Gallery ISEA2016 HK. Chatting with other ISEA attendants while appreciating the artworks on the biggest screen in the world - how amazing!
